Backyard Party Leftovers

Summer is winding down and there are lots of backyard parties to host. We had one this past Sunday afternoon and we’re having another this Sunday afternoon. Enjoying all our friends and grilling bunches of burgers.

Our last party was so much fun. We had lots of family attend and some very old friends too. You’ve got to love friends you have had for over 20, 30 and even 35 years. It’s hard to believe some of the dumb stuff you did as a kid – of which those old friends will quickly remind you of.   Just want to give a quick “Thank You For Coming – So Glad To See You” to Annette and Regan; Vicki and Mike; Christie and Neil.

After all the guests leave and you are cleaning up (with the help of family of course) you start filling plastic bags and containers with leftovers.   If all you have are these few burgers – you are good to go.

Pop a couple of these patties (with a little water drizzled over them) in the microwave and you have a quick lunch for you and hubby. BUT – what if you have about 20 of these left over.

No, we didn’t over cook for the number of folks that were coming we just had a couple of families not show up at the last minute. So, we were left with 21`hamburger patties.

Oh my – what do you with 21 wonderfully seasoned and cooked just right burgers? First, you send a couple home with each family. I couldn’t get them to take more than a couple each so Don and I were left with 15 hamburger patties. We had hamburgers for lunch and supper on Monday and lunch and supper on Tuesday but we just can’t eat another hamburger (remember we are having another cookout party this Sunday).   I put the old brain to work to think of some different things to do with leftover patties and I came up with a few ideas I could do with crumbled precooked hamburger patties:

• Tacos
• Quesadillas
• Spaghetti
• Taco Salad
• Sloppy Joe
• Homemade Pizzas
• Soups
• Shepard Pie
• Chili

You can also take the full patties and make Salisbury Steak and Patty Melts.
